Minister Asot Michael meets with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Ambassador Jose Manuel Trullos and other key individuals.




The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Ambassador Jose Manuel Trullos, invited Minister Asot Michael to a meeting during his visit to the Dominican Republic. In the meeting the Ministers discussed the interest to continue developing strong bilateral relations.
In the meeting Vice-Minister, Cesar Dargam and Ambassador Ivan Ogando, shared a series of projects that will benefit our nations in the areas of security, agriculture, tourism, sports and education. Adriano Herrera, the Dominican Republic Consul General in Antigua and Barbuda shared some of the progress made in trade and development.
 Ing. Antonio Vargas, National Authorizing Officer for the European Development Funds, expressed his interest in jointly creating a development program that will benefit our countries with the support of the European Union.  The creation of joint projects to promote regional integration will lead to more investment and development in the Caribbean. 

The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked Minister Michael for the cordial meeting and reminded him of the rich history and strong ties that our nations have shared for over 50 years.

Minister of Tourism, Energy, Investment and Economic Development, the Honourable Asot Michael, meets with The Asincro Group in Bogota, Colombia.



The Honourable Asot Michael Minister of Tourism, Energy, Investment and Economic Development today met with The Asincro Group of companies who specialize in consulting, engineering and EPC services for all types of fossil-fuel and renewable power generation projects, as well as power
transmission and distribution. Asincro has for more than 40 years executed more than 1,300 projects across Latin America, Spain, Denmark, Italy, Dominican Republic, Haiti and many more. Asincro has developed more than 70,000MW of thermal generation projects, more than 360 sub-stations from 69KV to 765KV and more than 14,000 MW in hydro-electric power generation.

In the last six (6) years Asincro has developed projects of more than 6,000 MW in thermal power generation in Venezuela. Asincro also developed the first wind farm project in Venuezla generating 100MW of power.

Minister Michael extended an invitation to the companies technical group and senior management to visit Antigua to begin an official assessment of Antigua and Barbuda’s energy matrix capacity and potential for green and renewable energy development.

Minister Michael made the official visit with a specific mandate from Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to make energy consumption more affordable for our people and business in the country. With the possible alliance with Asincro, Antigua and Barbuda can become a model for the region in Energy management and consumption. Minister Michael met with Mr. Salvatore Giannatassio, Asincro's founder and senior technical team led by Gustavo Sol and Maria Teresa Torres.

Mr. Miguel Mejia invited Minister Asot Michael to the Dominican Republic National Palace during his visit to the Dominican Republic.





The Minister for Regional Integration of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Miguel Mejia invited Minister Asot Michael to the Dominican Republic National Palace during his visit to the Dominican Republic. The meeting served to discuss the importance of our countries bilateral relations and the future visit of a Dominican Republic delegation to Antigua and Barbuda. Minister Mejia extended an invitation to Prime Minister Gaston Browne to visit the Dominican Republic.

Minister Miguel Mejia expressed the interest of the Dominican Republic in the region and the different projects that are currently being developed. Minister Michael expressed the interest of Antigua and Barbuda to attract investments to Antigua and Barbuda. Ambassador Juan Guiliani Cury, said that the Dominican Republic views CARICOM as their natural partners in projects.

Mr. Sadala Khoury, President of the Dominican Republic Exporters Association, expressed the interest of his sector to find partners to invest and promote exports. He recognized the advantages of manufacturing different products in Antigua and Barbuda.


Minister Michael welcomed their interest in Antigua and Barbuda.

Minister Asot Michael attended an important investment trade show




Minister Asot Michael, Minister of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment and Energy  attended in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic the most important investment trade show in all of Central America and the Caribbean.  The event had hundreds of representatives from all over the world. During the investment Forum, he met with Secretary of State Jean Alain Rodriguez, Director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic. The Ministers discussed the importance of attracting Foreign Investment to the Caribbean.
In the event that was headed by the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, Minister Michael expressed the idea of making the Caribbean one destination for Foreign Direct Investment. The representative of Antigua and Barbuda expressed the variety of business opportunities available in our country and the government investment friendly atmosphere.
Alternative energy options was one of the main topics discussed by Minister Michael during his meetings, in which he agreed on a visiting program by business people interested making investments.  Mr. Enrique Ramirez, Executive Director of the National Energy Commision of the Dominican Republic agreed to work with the Minister in looking for renewable energy options and promoting a national culture of energy conservation and efficiency

Dominican Republic and Antigua and Barbuda intensify the search for greater trade and investment approach


More and more official efforts between Dominican Republic and Antigua and Barbuda are intensified by the establishment of closer ties between the two nations, the prospect that their governments can generate positive transformations to be expressed at higher stages of economic and social welfare for both countries.
This intention was evidenced again with the visit of the Minister of Tourism, Economy, Development, Research and Energy of the Caribbean nation, Asot A.Michael, the engineer Antonio Vargas Hernandez, NAO European Funds for Development of the Dominican Republic .
When visiting Vargas Hernández, Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, was accompanied by Consul Honorariode his country, Ricardo D. Koening, and the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in the nation, Adriano Alberto Herrera Rodríguez.
During the desk, and Michael Vargas Hernández, addressed the relevance and need to create an instance of forward link inthe development of a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the coordination and cooperation necessary to ensure the development of both peoples.
They also expressed their aspiration and the possibility that later they can fulfill prior formal invitation, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda to Santo Domingo, in order that the said memorandum is signed at the highest level, ie, between it and Dominican President Danilo Medina Sánchez.
Another issue addressed in the important meeting of senior officials of the two countries, was regarding the interest and importance of the two governments to identify common projects to jointly manage funding through the European Union.
Both also discussed and agreed on how meaningful it would be feasible to visit Antigua and Barbuda Dominicans to investors, in order that they may explore potential markets for investments in the sister nation.

ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA COMMITTED TO ATTRACTING FOREIGN INVESTMENT


Antiguaand Barbuda’s Minister of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment and Energy, The Honourable Asot Michael, will go after international investment, this week, as he attends ‘Invest DR’. 

The Minister will meet hundreds of top investors at the two-day summit, which started today in the Dominican Republic.  ‘Invest DR’ is considered the Greatest Investment Summit in Central America and the Caribbean.

More than five hundred investors representing fifty countries have descended on the island to hold talks on business opportunities in tourism, energy, infrastructure, agribusiness, and the services and manufacturing industry. His Excellency Danilo Medina Sánchez, The President of the Dominican Republic, addressed delegates at the opening ceremony.

The Minister's trip is in line with Government's objective of attracting a significant amount of direct foreign investment within a year's time. 

Earlier today, the Economic Development and Investment Minister announced that: “Antigua and Barbuda is open for business.  There is no question about it, investment is key to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda’s economic plan.  We have revamped legislation and are formulating policies to make it more attractive for businesses to operate in the country as the focus is on securing more global investment.” 

Those involved in the closed afternoon meeting with Minister Michael to discuss investment strategies included heads of Government in the Dominican Republic: Minister of Tourism, Francisco J. García,  José Del Castillo Saviñón, Minister of Industry and Commerce,  and Pelegrin Castillo Seman, the Minister of Energy and Mining.

The minister will be seeking potential future collaborations in the shared sectors.
