Graeme McDowell revitalizes, outduels Webb Simpson in Hilton Head playoff

McDowell was four shots behind when the round began, however he mobilized with an end 69 over wind-blown Harbour Town Golf Links. The 2010 U.S. Open champ had his main bogey of the day on the 72nd opening to fulfill at nine-under 275 to constrain a playoff with Simpson, the dominant U.S. Open titleholder.

McDowell struck his methodology on the added opening something like 15 feet away and two-putted for standard. Simpson can't answer, missing a 10-footer for standard.

Luke Donald and Kevin Streelman tied for third.

McDowell's score finished a strong day in which just three players shot in the 60s.

Donald shot a 69, and Streelman had a 72. Jerry Kelly adjusted the top five after his even-standard 71.

Charley Hoffman, the 54-gap guide, ballooned to a 77 and fell into a tie for sixth.

Both McDowell and Simpson had an opportunity to score on the 72nd gap. McDowell missed a 12-foot standard putt for his main bogey of the round.

Simpson had a 22-footer for birdie a short time later on the 18th, yet he sent it 3 feet past, prompting the competition's third playoff in four years.
