Chail (Himachal Pradesh), Oct 29 (IANS) The state government will provide additional land to the Rashtriya Military School for expanding its campus, but the cricket ground located in its vicinity would remain with the state, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said here Wednesday.
Speaking at the 89th annual day function of the school, he said this school has a long-cherished history and has to its credit a number of officers serving the nation in the armed forces.
“I am greatly elated to witness the cultural show and the one-act comedy which is a delightful display of your creative abilities and aesthetic standards,” he said.
The chief minister said the government would also look into the demand removing the local market and its surroundings from the reserve forest area so that it could be developed into a township for benefiting the people at large.
The Chail military school in Solan district, some 120 km from Chandigarh, is one of the oldest residential military schools in Asia.
The school traces its history to the King George Royal Indian Military College, which was established in Jalandhar in Punjab in February 1922 and paved the way for the other four military schools – Ajmer, Dholpur, both in Rajasthan, and Bangalore and Belgaum, both in Karnataka.
