Ques: You are working with a big star for the first time with Bullett Raja. Why have you picked Saif Ali Khan and how did you negotiate his image?

Tigmanshu: While writing the script, I could gauge the scale of the film and I knew it's not going to happen within Rs 8 crore because of the action and location. 'Bullett Raja's character needed a star who could pull in the crowd. I've always thought ki Saif bahut khula hua actor hai. An actor has to be a little 'besharam', somebody who is ready to lose inhibitions, and not be conditioned to do the right thing. That's why a little child or an old man is always watchable. Saif has proven himself on that front several times. He is also a good draw at the box office, so he's a good mix of both qualities. And you have to exploit a star's image to your advantage. I used to perceive Saif as this urban, naughty and charming man. He is not fully innocent, you know 'thoda haraami lagta hai.' I have tried to retain that here.

Ques: Was it tough to get Saif Ali Khan to deliver a rustic accent?

Tigmanshu: He has said his dialogues very well. I didn't have to break my head over it as I thought I would. Only the body language sometimes became a problem. The way he would put his hands in his pocket or hold a cigarette — I had to make sure 'woh western pana nahi hona chahiye'. But it's always interesting to make an actor do new things. Had I worked with an actor who has a vernacular image, it wouldn't be as exciting.

'Krrish 3' is a superhero film. It is also a throwback to the creaky family entertainers Bollywood used to make. The hero has special powers, sure, but also a loving daddy, a lovely wifey, an attractive moll and a villain with severe daddy issues. Only a pet poodle or parrot is missing.

Superheroes have been around in Hindi cinema for decades, but huge technology jumps have made 'Krrish 3' the slickest of them all, special effects-wise. The rest of it is marred by tackiness. When Krrish is doing his derring-do stunts, we watch, even if we've seen Superman do this 30 years ago. But when he delivers maudlin dialogue about fathers and mothers and bravery, we are pulled back to the ground with a thud, with the superhero the Roshans made.

Hrithik is the perfect choice amongst the Bollywood superstar lot to do this role. With his superbly articulated chest, each muscle moving and shiny and oiled, Krrish doesn't even need a mask and a cape. But the ensemble is eye-catching, and we ignore his immaculately-styled long hair, flying in the wind, when he is whizzing about rescuing little boys. Roshan Jr is as likeable and earnest as he usually is, but can't rise above the mothballed treatment. Roshan Sr, who has written and directed, should have given the superhero more to do.

But he gets stuck in bringing the backstory forward. The soppy but sweet `Koi Mil Gaya's ( 2003) socially challenged but brilliant Rohit begets Krishna, who finds his super-powers in 'Krrish' ( 2006). Both the ageing Rohit and Krishna star in `'Krrish 3', and both roles are played by Hrithik. Priyanka, playing Krishna's TV reporter wife, has to look on admiringly as Hrithik does his standard dance number. He is still as dextrous, but the dancing has no zing, and the songs are terrible.

Good afternoon, Church.

No more that burly gait

No more that joyous face

No more that radiant smile

No more that resonant voice

No more on this earth, my brother,

Cortright Mason

Yet, in my heart, he is here.

In my bones and in my marrow,

Carty lives on.

In my memory,

In my every conscious moment, he

stands beside me as he always did.

My brother, and my friend;

my true friend!

The chain of love he forged

Has not been broken by his

untimely death.

Nor has it been in the least bit weakened.

If anything, the chain has grown stronger.

Reaching beyond this mortal life

To that better place where

Carty must be

Laughing and happy in the company of the Almighty.

I do not pretend that I do not feel anger at his loss.

I do not pretend that my heart is not

bursting with the grief of his passing.

I do not pretend that I do not question why.

I do all these things

And, I cry inside, as I weep outside.

For Carty did not deserve to die so young and so sudden.

So, we come today to mourn the passing and celebrate the life of Cortright Mason, my friend, my brother, my comrade.  We all feel the deep sense of loss for a loved one who is cut down in his prime enjoying the fullness of life still filled with so much hope, so much dreams, so much love, and so much more to give; so much more to share. 

For Cortright Mason, was still a man in his prime with today’s health care fifty (50) years is still a young age, and none of us expected him to be cut down so suddenly without warning, without him knowing that he had any major health issues, without any time to say a proper goodbye.

But we have lived long enough to know that life is not fair, and none of us are guaranteed this precious gift of life.

We live every day by the mercy of God, and to him we must give constant and incessant praise accepting his mercies and using every day to do good, to be kind, to love, to share, to live. 

In a hymn written more than 150 years ago and known by most of us across Antigua, the inspired songwriter addressed two desires for which all humans yearn—love and joy:

      

There are depths of love that I cannot know till I cross the narrow sea,

There are heights of joy that I may not reach       till I rest in peace with thee.

My friend, Cortright Mason, was deeply loved by his family and friends, before he crossed that narrow sea. We all experience the heights of joy which comes from knowing love, as it flows between and within family. Love erases barriers erected from fear.

Cortright Mason was born in Antigua 50 years ago, on February 4^th 1963.

This island was then an extremely poor colony with a future waiting to be shaped by our greatest National Hero. Carty’s beginnings were humble, much the same as his parents’: Gwendolyn James of Pares Village; and Hamil Mason of Willikies Village. He was born when sugarcane and cotton dominated the landscape.

My friend was nevertheless steeped in the culture of his island-country and village. He attended Pares Secondary School and was an ardent and dedicated cricketer from childhood.

Carty was likely emulating his athletic father—Hamil Mason— who was among the best all-rounder in Parish League Cricket. Carty owned as much cricket gear as any professional cricketer. He loved a cricket match even more than he loved a music concert, and spent his scarce resources on mastering his favourite past-time.

Most of his friends knew him as “Fungi” or “Golden Eye”; and many friends will remember Carty as the very first engineer for the Burning Flames. He was a graduate of the Institute of Audio Research, in New York, specializing in Audio Engineering.

Carty learned to perfect many of his engineering skills at ABS, his first employer. Carty ensured that everything was just right whenever and wherever the Burning Flames played. He was meticulous and highly rated.

Carty provided his engineering skills to 90% of all bands in Antigua, more often out of love for his work than for any material reward. He was not an acquisitive man. He wanted to be the best sound and technical engineer in Antigua, displaying his skills at every venue where bands played.

Carty’s last big event was the Wadadli Beer Calypso Monarch Competition at Carnival City, this past August.

That was before he knew that he was deathly ill.

I became a very close friend of Carty through Annette Aflak, my cousin and Carty’s love. When Annette became pregnant with Antoinette, I would place my ear on her growing bulge so that the baby’s heartbeat could become audible to me. Procreation is a miracle.

Although Annette has two brothers, Allan and Paul, I always felt that her parents received the greatest joy from their only daughter and therefore loved her the most.

There are heights of joy that one may not reach, till one rests peacefully with the inner self.

Yet, all sons know only too well that many fathers are capable of withdrawing love temporarily, while mothers love their children continuously and forever. My Uncle Aflak is a man; he is a father, a great father!

The racial divide which Annette and Carty crossed was cause for friction, at first. Yet, no-one in my family loved and cared for Carty after Antoinette was born, like Annette’s Daddy, my Uncle Aflak.

There are depths of love that one cannot know, till one crosses certain narrow seas.

Christ, the son of God, came to earth to share this message with all of God’s children. God is love! Love one another like God loves you.

It is surely the case that Carty was very much loved, and that he showed love in abundance over his 50 years of living. He was the father of Cochien (Cochen), Anesha, Shazierre, Darrien, Nicole, Laurel-Ann, Courtney, Teandra, Zenicia, Tehrique and DeAundre, and Antoinette.

But, although he loved all his children, Antoinette was his pride and joy, making him proud when she graduated from Devry University in February, 2012.  Up until he was on his sick bed he insisted that she return to University to complete her Bachelors Degree at Richmond University in London.

Within the final weeks of his life, Carty turned his life over to God. While in the Baptist Hospital in Florida, he told my sister Teresa-Anne that Annette was the best angel sent by God to rescue him in eternity. He told Teresa-Anne how much he loved Annette’s parents and his own parents, his Aunts and Grandmother, his children, and how close he felt to Annette’s mom, Lolita.

He insisted on having the Hail Mary’s reproduced in writing so that he could read them at will.  

Carty before his passing forgave everyone that hurt or wronged him, and he begged God to grant him forgiveness. He was prepared to meet God. He was prepared to cross those narrow seas.

The 21^st of October 2013 brought with it an end to a well-lived life. My friend Carty Mason passed through this earth and left his mark. A relatively poor, undiluted African-descendant male from Willikies Village learned to love a Lebanese-descendant, but Antiguan born woman from Crosbies. Love, we have seen, conquers all.

“But, man is lonely by birth

Man is only a pilgrim on earth

Born to be king

Time is but a temporary thing

Only alone while on earth….”

Antigua and Barbuda is about to celebrate its 32^nd year of independence; and, since Carty’s birth in 1963, we are about to hold the 12^th General Election in our country’s history.

While these public events and milestones help to define us as a people, our country relies collectively on the quality of the private lives which we live in order to measure our progress.

Cortright Mason lived through many changing scenes in life, in trouble and in joy. In the final analysis, when he found God, my friend Carty found heights of joy that only he can relate.

And as the Great Lebanese Artist, Poet and Philosopher Khalil Gibral wrote, and I quote;

“The Reality of Life is Life itself, whose beginning is not in the womb, and whose ending is not in the grave.  For the years that pass are naught but a moment in eternal life; and the world of matter and all in it is but a dream compared to the awakening which we call the terror of Death”.

Man, and the day of death is the

Day of awakening, for it is the

Great era of Labour and the rich

Hour of creation”

“Death is an ending to the son of

The earth, but to the soul it is

The start, the triumph of life”

Specially collected shilla (stone) – inscribed with the holy symbols in order to invoke divine presence and the guardianship of the lords of directions – were laid by Jindal amid chanting of vedic hymns and puja on the auspicious day of October 07, 2013.  Managing Director,  Ravi Uppal; Dy. The temple will have seven deities and five Garva Gruhas (Sanctums) and will be made in ‘Nagar Shaili’ Style of temples architecture which is widely popular in India. Ahemdabad based temple architect Mr. Nikhil Sompura who has designed several temples for Jindal group across India is designing the temple at Angul. In strict adherence to the principles of Shilpa Shastra there will be no use of steel. The east facing temple will be of 56 feet 11 inches of height and will span across 13084 square feet area.

 

“The temple will be made in a combination of the light yellow colour Porbandar stone and Makrana marble and have five main Sikhars,” said Shri. Sanjay Praharaj, Sr. DGM (Township Civil), under whose supervision the temple will achieve its full form in completion. The project is estimated to be completed in one and half years, informed Shri. JLN Murty, AVP (Civil).

 

“The temple will certainly create a positive ambience in the locality and will boost the morale as well as spiritual synergy among people,” said Mr. DK Saraogi, Executive Director and Location Head of JSPL. Women from local community, village leaders and family members of JSPL employees participated in the foundation laying ceremony, held with religious fervor.

The company operates three main UAE ports: two on behalf of the Sharjah Port Authority - Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT) and Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT); and one in Ruwais. 

Gulftainer's group managing director, Peter Richards disclosed that the company has surged ahead with further expansion plans within existing operations to allow for greater capacity and the increasing size of vessels now requiring access to the ports. 

"Our figures are indicative of the UAE's growing influence as an import and export hub, and even more so of the east coast's popularity for containership operators,” said Richards. 

He added that it is an exciting time for the company, as it anticipates a double-digit growth this year. 

In January this year, Khorfakkan Container became the first terminal operator in the Middle East to handle the world's largest containership, CMA CGM Marco Polo, owned by the CMA CGM Group. 

Khorfakkan is one of the few ports in the world able to accommodate Marco Polo's massive 16,020 TEU capacity. 

"Having grown up with the industry here in the region, Gulftainer has evolved significantly during the past four decades and the arrival of this vessel is indicative of our forward-thinking approach and understanding of what we can expect in the years to come,” Richards added. 

Having seen volumes increase at Khorfakkan in 2012, Gulftainer has ensured it stays ahead of the trend and the terminal is well prepared to handle mega-containerships beyond the 16,000 TEU handling capacity. 

"The size of containership vessels is only expected to increase,” says Group Managing Director of Gulftainer, Peter Richards, "as clients demand more cost effective movement of cargo, and operators demand greater fuel efficiency. Marco Polo is the first of a new breed of containership vessels, something that Gulftainer has pre-empted for many years, ensuring that its facilities are more than ready to accommodate these types of vessels.” 

Its arrival at KCT was marked with a presentation from Gulftainer to Captain Igor Sikic of the Marco Polo and CMA CGM representatives; Dubai Agency Deputy General Manager, Prinson George and Arnaud Coudray, Commercial Regional Director for the Middle East Gulf. The Marco Polo proceeded to its final port at Ningbo, China having covered a total distance of approximately 20,000 nautical miles since the commencement of its voyage on Nov.7 last year. It is the first of a series of three 16,000 TEU vessels from CMA CGM, that will all be named after great explorers.

Gulftainer Takes Control of Three Saudi Terminals Amid Expansion

Gulftainer acquired full management control of three terminals in Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil exporter, as the closely held port operator based in the United Arab Emirates seeks to expand in emerging markets.
Gulftainer bought 51 percent of Saudi Arabia’s Gulf Stevedoring Contracting Co., helping it take management control of three terminals in Jeddah and Jubail, the company said today, without disclosing the value of the transaction. The acquisition makes it the largest port operator in theMiddle East by number of terminals operated, Gulftainer said.
“Saudi Arabia is hugely important for the company’s ambition in the Middle East,” Badr Jafar, vice chairman of Gulftainer, said in an interview today. “Going forward we see the majority of the company’s growth in developing markets.”
Saudi Arabia is spending billions of dollars to develop energy and infrastructure projects in regions such as Jubail, home to several projects that are being developed with companies including Dow Chemical Co. (DOW) and Total SA. Gulftainer, with its stake in Gulf Stevedoring, is likely among companies that stand to gain from shipment of goods to help develop the projects.
Gulftainer has ports and logistics operations in the U.A.E., Iraq, Russia, Lebanon and Brazil, as well as ventures in Turkey and Pakistan. The company expects to handle more than 10 million containers in the next five years, compared with a forecast of 6 million containers this year, driven by international operations, said Jafar, who is also the chief executive of Crescent Enterprises.
Investments

The port operator is considering opportunities in Africa, America and the eastern Mediterranean region for investments, Jafar said. “The exact ports and locations are under review.”
Gulftainer also plans to invest $150 million over five years in its home base in Sharjah and the U.A.E., where it expects to raise capacity to 8 million twenty-foot equivalent units by 2015. The company plans to invest $500 million over two years as it expands in Russia and Saudi Arabia, Jafar told Bloomberg News last month.
“We have a decent amount of work cut out for ourselves this year,” Jafar said today. “It doesn’t necessarily mean we are not looking at closing transactions in the remainder of the year, but our focus will be on recent acquisitions and operations.”

1. STARTER RESORT

Marmaris is a very good introduction to Turkey, a just-the-right-size resort on the south coast, set between mountains and a superb, sheltered bay hemmed in by islands.

On the waterfront, silken-tongued salesmen will sell you trips ranging from jeep safaris through the pine-clad mountains of the Loryma Peninsula to a lazy day on Cleo patra’s Island, where the sand is said to have been shipped from Egypt by Mark Antony.

My favourite trip is to Turtle Beach at Dalyan, a protected reserve for turtles on a three-mile-long sandy spit. Back in town, I recommend the hammam (Turkish bath) for the treatment reputedly devised to cure Cleopatra’s headaches.



2. NICE TROY

Alone under a high 3,000-year-old wall, with only a wild tortoise for company, I stood in Troy, the setting for the greatest story ever told, outside the Bible. It was easy to conjure up those fabled warriors, Achilles, Ajax and Odysseus, the Greek soldiers tumbling out of that huge horse (see the replica at the entrance) and the wondrous beauty Helen, who triggered the siege.

Enough of Troy’s ancient masonry survives to suggest that, whatever actually happened here, this was once a tremendous place. Close by are the Dardanelles, the narrow, history-rich neck of water dividing Asia and Europe.

And on the other side, the dignified calm of the Gallipoli peninsula and its beaches, scene of the doomed Allied campaign in the First World War. Combine the two in a day trip.

3. SEEK CHIC

Bodrum is one of Turkey’s most select resorts, at the foot of the west coast. By day, handsome ranks of white stucco houses with blue window frames shimmer on a green hill, bursting with bougainvillea, overlooking a dazzling blue bay.

By night Bodrum basks in the glow of the lit-up St Peter’s Castle, built by the Knights of
Rhodes with pieces of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, which stood nearby. Today the castle houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, displaying riches recovered from wrecks – some 3,000 years old.

Bodrum has a marina fit for the South of France, swanky hotels and high-decibel nightlife, complete with prowling paparazzi. But there’s perfect peace in the 15-mile-long peninsula to the west, with ancient terraced fields dotted with beehives.

There are thrilling glimpses down to islands, capes, inlets and quiet villages with
welcoming waterside restaurants.



4. BRIDGING CONTINENTS

Istanbul, where two continents meet across the Bosphorus, is the European Capital of Culture for 2010.

The ancient city is crammed with blockbusters from 2,500 years of history. There are Greek and Roman remains alongside the mystique, power and glitter of the Byzantine
and Ottoman empires. The short ferry trip from Kadikoy in Asia to Eminonu in Europe (the best way to the centre from Sabiha Gokcen airport, used by easyJet) gives a perfect view of the old city, dominated by the Ottoman Topkapi Palace, the vast dome of the Aya Sophia (once the greatest cathedral in Christendom) and the fabulous Blue Mosque.

The flip side of the city’s flat-out commotion is the nearby car-free Princes’ Islands, 45 minutes by ferry.

5. SUPER SOUTH

Antalya, in Turkey’s deep south on the Mediterranean’s Turquoise Coast, is a resort doubling as an open museum, refreshed with springs gushing down from the Taurus
Mountains. The old quarter is a tight swirl of red-roofed houses, threaded by narrow, cobbled streets.

It sits above the marina, site of an old Roman port. The triumphal arch, honouring a visit by Emperor Hadrian, still stands. Greek, Roman and Byzantine antiquities litter the coast and the mountains above.

There are easy day trips to ancient sites such as Perge, Side and Aspendos. My pick is the high and impregnable mountaintop city of Termessos, one of the few places to resist Alexander the Great. The Lycian Way, a 320-mile path between Antalya and Fethiye, is one of the world’s finest long walks.



6. LAZY DAYS

Top of my list of Turkish holiday experiences is a lazy, bay-hopping jaunt by boat  round the coast. The south and south-west coasts are the very best locations, and day (or shorter) trips are available from most resorts. They follow roughly the same magical formula. Sail for a bit. Then drop anchor for a swim in some empty cove, followed by lunch aboard.

              I shall forever be inspired by the many prayers that were offered up for me during my darkest hour in public life, when unfortunately I was forced to resign as a Minister, not for any significant wrong-doing, but for doing right by you, and for speaking my mind on behalf of the wider population of this country. I shall never forget the night of June 19th 2003, when you came in your hundreds to my home to reaffirm your support and well wishes at the end of that most traumatic period. The outcome of any counting of ballots can never erase the impact of your expression of genuine love and concern for my physical and emotional well-being.


My desire to be of service to the people of Antigua and Barbuda is not for personal gain or aggrandizement. To the contrary, the temptation is great for me to conclude that the personal pain and vilification is not worth it. I have considered on many occasions walking away from it all and pursuing a career in business, or making a total shift to the law or some other profession. But when I visit your communities and your individual homes, when I speak to you in person at my office or on the telephone, I recognize your belief in, and commitment to, the cause for which I stand. I recognize that I can be no less committed. I will uphold your belief, I will pursue the cause of enhancing the standard of living and the quality of life of the residents of St. Peter’s. I reaffirm my support for the leadership of the Hon. Prime Minister, Lester Bryant Bird, and his vision for Antigua and Barbuda. I shall see this struggle through to the end. I therefore ask for your support on Election Day. My success, indeed your success, would provide both you and I with a voice in the elected House of Representatives of this country, as the duly elected member by and for the people of the constituency of St. Peter.

SHARJAH CONTAINER TERMINAL - GULFTAINER

The Sharjah Container Terminal, established in 1976 was the first purpose built and fully equipped modern Container Terminal in the Middle East. It is adjacent to Sharjah's industrial area which accommodates over 45 % of the non oil manufacturing capacity of the UAE.

Gulftainer's Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT) has been named 'Shipping Port of the Year' at the Annual Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA 2011) in Dubai. The Awards, which are in their fifth year, are organised by magazine publisher ITP Business, and have established themselves as the ultimate celebration of the Middle East logistics industry's achievements.

The Award follows on the heels of Gulftainer's recent announcement that it achieved record volumes at its two UAE terminals in April, experiencing its highest ever monthly throughputs.

KCT has storage facility for over 45,000 TEUs, and a 3,000 sq.metre dedicated transit shed and storage area for LCL cargo. KCT also has the capability to accommodate in excess of 1,000 reefer containers at the facility.

Supreme Court Orders Sebi not to read further advertisements

In SEBI Sahara Case, today SEBI started its arguments on the contempt petition filed by SEBI alleging violation of the SC order dated 5-12-12 by Sahara. At the closing of arguments, counsel for SEBI stated that the arguments made by him also covered the contempt petitions earlier filed alleging breach of the order dated 31-8 -12 and argued that Shri Subrata Roy Sahara should also be held liable, besides the directors for the contempt. The Court however did not issue notice of contempt against Mr Subrata Roy Sahara, on the second contempt Petition.

Whilst referring to affidavit filed by Sahara on 4-1-12, SEBI argued that in the said affidavit undertaking has been given, which has been violated.   The Hon’ble Supreme Court also enquired with SEBI, as to how the said other group companies, which are independent legal entities, are bound by the said affidavit, filed by the two Sahara companies.  Counsel for SEBI indicated that this issue will be addressed by him separately. 

SEBI referred to an advertisement appeared in the news paper on 3^rd Sept. 2012 calling it as an instance of contemptuous conduct of Sahara. The Hon’ble Court, on referring to the said publication, observed that the same does not amount to contempt and indicated that SEBI may not read further advertisements.
